This little “Woordeboek” is dedicated to Hennie Schietekat, a former colleague of mine at Southern Life.
Hennie developed the first (English-Afrikaans) dictionary that focused on language used in the financial services context. I wish I knew what happened to that dictionary.
During my ongoing research I am finding legislation and annual reports (e.g. of the Registrar of Pension Funds) that were also written in Afrikaans. I am using these for this little Woordeboek, which is really little more than an ongoing collection of translations with commentaries. Woordeboek is probably the wrong word. It is a work in progress
I have no idea if there is even a need for this Woordeboek. All I know is that if Hennie was to read this, he would be correcting my English, never mind the translations.
Comments regarding whether or not this project has any value, as well as suggestions and contributions, are welcome. I am English-speaking, have no qualifications in languages and according to Our Great Leader, less South African and less patriotic.
This little project is therefore offered with the humility of a quasi-stateless person. If you would like to add to this dictionary or comment thereon, please contact me.
